The sight of Motovun rising above the fog is not uncommon in November; many photographers have captured this phenomenon from positions in the surrounding hills. In order to create a unique aerial photograph of this scene, and to attain a fresh and original perspective on a popular subject (in this case, capturing fog behind the hill), the author spent 12 days in waiting in Motovun. In the morning, whenever the fog would settle in such a manner that Motovun remained above it, the author would race to Pula Airport (a one-hour drive). But by the time he was flying above Motovun, the fog would often have dispersed or swallowed the picturesque town atop the hill. He succeeded after his third attempt.
